A simple homemade pound cake with a light drizzle of Nutella. It’s been a hit in our family and with friends because it’s perfect for teatime or light snacking but also serves well as a comforting yet decadent dessert.

  • Preheat oven to 175°C. Line an 8-inch square baking tray with parchment paper.

  • Sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder together.

  • Beat the butter and sugar together till fluffy and light in colour.

  • Gradually add eggs, beating well after each addition, and stir in the vanilla.

  • Add the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Stir until just blended.

  • Pour the batter into the pan and tap the pan gently so that the batter settles evenly.

  • Drizzle the Nutella over the batter and use a toothpick to swirl it in.

  • Bake for about 40 minutes or till the toothpick comes out clean.

  • Let it cool before inverting it onto a plate.

  • Tastes best when warmed slightly.
