TRICK OR TREAT?
It was our first day in Istanbul. After a full day of sightseeing, we found ourselves on the high street called Istiklal Caddesi – a hub of activity, especially in the evenings with loud music from pubs and bars, glittering shop windows, and global brands for clothes, footwear, eyewear and every product imaginable displayed enticingly. These were interspersed with eateries.
Famished, we found a small, friendly-looking place for doner kebabs with an old couple attending to the customers. Right outside was an ice cream vendor. Someone from our group wanted an ice cream cone and since they were still eating dinner, I offered to go out and buy one.
Successfully getting a cone wasn’t as straightforward as I expected. The Turkish ice cream vendor was a prankster! I got to know only once he started serving the ice cream, and the entire episode was captured in this video. Don’t miss the laughter of my friends standing by and watching me getting tricked!
It was funny and I felt foolish too, every time he tricked me! But nevertheless a first time experience… and one never to be forgotten.
