- Cut coconut pieces: ½ cup
- Sesame oil: 1 tbsp
- Split urad dal: 1 tsp
- Small black mustard seeds: 1 tsp
- Asafoetida: a pinch
- Red chillies: 4 (nipped at the tip)
- Green chillies: 2 (chopped)
- Coriander: 1 tbsp (chopped)
- Curry leaves: a few
- Salt: to taste
